Maxine Waters
this Lady Is A Star
by
Forest Hairston

Maxine Waters, dramatic, strong, beautiful and well refined is all that an African American woman could ever be. I absolutely love Maxine Waters. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, a lady who serves her constituents just around the corner from Hollywood's Walk of Fame is nothing less herself than a star.

Performing as a member of the House of Representatives Judiciary Committee during President Clinton's impeachment process, Maxine played the role of the old slave woman Harriet Tubman. And then she captivated her audience into spellbound awe, as she became the reincarnation of the famed Sojourner Truth, the lady abolitionist, who walked the American streets alongside Frederick Douglass and denounced slavery as the most iniquitous evil of human endeavor.

And so, on December 19, of 1998 Maxine Waters went on writing Black History, as she performed amid a protest of constitutional unfairness against her Republican antagonists. On that day, she spoke to her Brothers and Sisters across the world. Even those from along South Africa to her own South Central L.A. On that day, with a flare that only a star could imagine, this eloquent beautiful Black woman draped herself in a high-fashion kick-split ensemble, and led her Democratic colleagues in a dramatic walkout down the spectacular Capitol steps into the streets of Washington, D.C.

And still, before the curtain could fall on the last act of this Capitol Hill theater, Maxine Waters, a great lady born in Saint Louis, Missouri, had played the part of every legendary Black woman who has graced each stage of our struggle. Yet listen . . . and you'll hear a rousing applause for the lady who played the only role, which she knows best. She merely played herself--Maxine Waters.

Black History

Black Legacy

The dramatic, irrepressible Maxine Waters. Her fearless undying endeavors amidst the grassroots of Los Angeles. Her courageous work on the main street of dire oppression. With all her heart she speaks best to you up-close and personal. This great Black lady is our live and living American History. With enormous pride may we now present . . . Maxine Waters. . . . A Star.
