Truth
by
Forest Garfield Hairston
Hear ye! Hear ye! We now stand
this Supreme Court
Gods seated high above, vainly shrouded
in elegant black robes
Keepers of this Constitution. Warriors
for this fight for equality
We the people give this voice that must
recite the fairest truth
Nay Democrat, nay Republican may
seat this hallowed hill
Truth prevail at every battleground, and
every Florida ballot-field
Hear ye! Hear ye! At Supreme Court
here be no partisan, truth.
Our Justice seated high above. A God shroud
in the sacred robe
Truth! Constitutional truth! The fairest voice
for all the people
People shall still be paramount. Truth shall
never stop the count
Our higher court must ever be justice, for,
by and of all the people
Be equal, be fair. A hallowed court of law
for every American
Supreme Justice be nor political party,
neither whereas political greed
Hear ye! Hear ye! Hear ye we stand as
but one America, truth. |
